The Power of Words (at least the Power of Jesus’ Words)

“It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.” (John 6:63, ESV)

Leave it to Jesus to say some of the most outlandish words possible!

Think about what he says here.  The words that I [emphasized in the Greek] have spoken to you are spirit and life.  Have you ever heard anyone make that kind of claim before?  Yeah, me neither.  We can get so used to hearing/reading them that they lose their power and force.

Can you imagine someone standing up at your local mall and saying for all to hear, “All the stuff you are buying?  It is no help to attain life.  The words that I am speaking to you are spirit and life for you.”

My. Words. Who says things like this? This is the Jesus of the Gospel of John.  The Jesus that John tells us whom, if we believe in him, can give us eternal life.

John believed Jesus’ words.  Do you believe them, dear reader?
